ABOUT ME
Jonathan Kalb is Professor of Theater at Hunter College and the CUNY Graduate Center, and the Resident Dramaturg of Theater for a New Audience. He has twice received the George Jean Nathan Award for Dramatic Criticism as well as the George Freedley Memorial Award. He has written for The New York Times, The New Yorker, The Nation, Salmagundi, The Threepenny Review, Salon.com, The Brooklyn Rail, and many other publications. He was a regular theater critic for The Village Voice from 1987-1997 and the chief theater critic for New York Press from 1997-2001. From 2003 to 2016 he edited the theater web journal HotReview.org, which he founded. From 2018 until the Covid pandemic, he created and moderated a live theater-review-panel series called TheaterMatters at HERE Arts Center. He earned his BA from Wesleyan University and his MFA and doctorate at the Yale School of Drama.
